Research Day 2026, the Ionian University’s major celebration of science and outreach, was held with great success on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. At the event, which was hosted in the specially designed venue of the Corfu Port Authority (OLKE), Ionian Technomedia, the Foundation’s flagship spin-off, made a strong showing.

Research Day was a multifaceted event that brought the academic community into contact with the local community and economic stakeholders. The program included:

• Multidisciplinary Exhibition: Research achievements from all University departments were presented, covering fields such as Computer Science, the Arts, History, the Environment, and Tourism.
• Awards: The event included the presentation of the “Markos Avlonitis” Research Award, while the keynote speaker was the distinguished Professor and Honorary Doctor of the University, Mr. Nektarios Tavernarakis.
• Showcasing Young Researchers: Through the “Young Scholars” presentations, the new generation of scientists was given a platform to present their work.

As part of the presentations by related institutions, Minas Pergantis, a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Audio and Visual Arts and co-founder of Ionian Technomedia, analyzed the company’s trajectory from its founding  to the present.

Ionian Technomedia emerged as a vivid example of successful technology transfer from the laboratory to the market. Attendees were briefed on the company’s specialized services in the design of complex information systems, web applications, and digital media, with an emphasis on the fields of Culture and the Arts.

The presentation focused on the company’s strategic choice to serve as a bridge between research excellence and contemporary business needs, reinforcing the role of the Ionian University as a pillar of regional development and innovation.
